Black Pearl 8/28

Well fishing has been very good over the past few weeks.  Definitely winding down on the mature kings as they move north.  We've been catching 10-15 fish per trip with a nice mix of coho, kings, steelhead and a few trout.  The kings have been from 110-150ft.  Coho get thicker as you move out to the blue colored water.  Our Fishhawk temp probe has been critical as the late August winds have been shifting the water around.  Our riggers have been 50-90 down with regular size spoons on the outdowns and a flasher/fly on the chute.  Our high divers at 200-230 back and lows at 90-120 back have been taking mature coho and kings with meat rigs.  Blood Run coppers in 200-400 lengths have been pulling regular sized spoons and flasher flys.  Have a great remainder of the season!  Black Pearl came out of the water today so that's a wrap on 2023 fishing for our crew.

Black Pearl Big Red Week

Fishing has been excellent out of Holland.  We've been taking fish from 100-140 most of the past week but the east and north winds have cooled the lake each day.  We ended up fishing 70-80ft the past few days with catches of mature kings.  150-250 coppers with ace high plugs and moonshine spoons, divers back 120-180 on highs and 60-80 on lows have been most productive.

Black Pearl Week of July 24

Fishing has remained excellent out of Holland.  Kings and lake trout have comprised the majority of the catch.  We've been fishing 90-170 FOW this past week.  Blood Run wire diver back 180-280 on highs and 90-140 on lows have been very productive with Big Weenie Meat rigs.  Our Traxstech riggers have been taking our trout near bottom.  Blood Run coppers in 175-450 lengths have been taking fish with a mix of baits.

7/21-7/24 Rod Boss fishing report

Fishing has been electric!  It just doesn’t get any better than what it is.

We have been starting the morning inside. Staring at 80 fow and sliding out to the point we start getting bit. Lots of meat bites mixed with a few plug bites.

Starting in shallow and moving out to 120 and continuing out deep to 160-170.

High divers back 160-225 and low diver back 80-120 with meat did most the work. Chute with a spinny fly down deep took quite a few bites over the weekend. Trout baits down on the bottom have been producing decent number.

Green splatter plugs on 250 cu have been fire. Not sure how long the bite will last but good grief the salmon have really been munching on them.

Get out and enjoy this fishing while you can

7/14/2023 Rod Boss fishing report

The morning bite is has been starting quickly with a few bites coming while setting lines in the morning. The early bite is critical. I would be trying to set lines by 6:00 or earlier.

Meat has been the hot ticket. A few fly bites and spoon bites mixed in there. Out of a 15 rod spread we were 7-8 as meat and 5-6 with flies and a couple spoons on top for some steelhead.

We ran flies and meat on 250,300,350,400,450 coppers and they all went. Divers back 160-180 on highs and 100-125 on lows. We have only been running meat on the divers. Atleast to start. Maybe dropping them back as the trip progresses.

We have been getting bit on the set with diver out maybe 50-75 and they are hooked up. Last 4 trips have been like this.

There is a lot of opportunity out there right now. Book a charter or go experience in your boat. But figure out a way to get on the water!

Hope this helps!

7/10 Black Pearl Report

Fishing has been very good with king salmon making up the majority of our catch this past week.  We have been fishing 90-150FOW targeting 50-90 down.  Riggers with magnum moonshine spoons and big white paddles have been taking fish in low light conditions.  Blood Run wire divers back 160-240 on highs and 100-140 on lows have been taking the majority of our kings.  300-450 coppers with flasher/flies and Big Weenie meat rigs have been good too.

7/7/2023 Rod Boss fishing report

I have been starting in 90 fow and sliding out. Last few trips the bite has been on immediately to start the trip. The early bite has been the best bite. I have been fishing in 90-110 fow until the bite runs out and then I have been sliding out to 140-160 fow. It has been more productive for me to do slight in and slight out trolls. Fishing on the north troll has been better than fishing on the south troll for me. But I know others have been fishing on south trolls and having good catches so I do not believe you have to only fish north

High divers at 160-185 with meat have been firing early. Low divers at 100-125 have fired a little longer in the day than what the high divers seemed to go. I have been running meat rigs on the divers.

Copper bites have been on 200 cu with a spoon, 250 cu paddle fly, 300 cu paddle fly, 400 cu spinny fly and 450 cu with a weenie meat rig.

Corners have been down for trout. Admittedly I have not been having as good of luck with the trout as other have. I could tell you more about what not to do than to do. I have been getting 2-3 trout a trip off the corners with spin n glows. Chute has been in the way more than it has been a help in catching fish.

7/3/2023 Rod Boss fishing report

Fishing on Lake Michigan continues to produce nice quality catches. Mix boxes of Salmon, Lake Trout and Steelhead. The fish have been biting coppers in ranges from 175-450 coppers. Limited spoon bites most of the bites have been on spinny flies and meat rigs. High divers at 160-200 and low divers at 100-130 with spinny flies and meat rigs have been very productive. Trout rigs on the corners on bottom have been harvesting Lake Trout and a fairly good pace.

Starting the trips in the morning in 90 fow and sliding out to 140 fow then working back in. We have been fishing north of Holland to Port Sheldon and back again.

Hopefully the full moon won’t shut the bite off!

5/26/2023 Rod Boss fishin report

Shallow was good to start. Tough to keep the fish on the line. Focused on the 35-50 fow getting bites on the 3, 5, 7 colors and 150 cu and low diver. It ended up getting busy so I wanted to leave

We fished from 50 fow to 200 fow picking fish every few minutes. Spoons and meat both took fish. Lots of a action. Again it was hard to keep the spring salmon on the lines.

Hard to say what was the best presentation out deep as most every line took fish. The low diver at 125 with a spoon took probably the most hits. Then the 5 color with a spoon thenHigh diver with meat

Today was a grind but a successful grind. Picking fish every few minutes once we left the skinny water.

5/18-5/21/2023 Rod Boss fishing report

Sunday morning after the Mother Nature decided to reset the water we set in 110 fow found fish right away starting out 1-2 while setting lines. Continued to have a fairly good pic of the fish to start working through the 110-140 fow. With Alewives meat bites on both high divers back 140. Had a cousin chute bites with Black knight crinckle fly combo down 75.   Also had a low diver take with white paddle green dot green crinckle fly combo.

On a hard west troll we took fish from 160-240 fow picking fish consistently every few minutes. We turned around and did a hard east troll and that was not nearly as productive. However it did harvest us a nice king at the end of the trip.

High divers with meat, low diver with paddle fly combo and the chute with a paddle fly combo did most the work today with all of them taking 4 or so bites each. Also took fish on 7 color, 140 copper, A few corner rigger bites to round out the action.

Who knows what will happen as the lake warms up. But the fish out of Holland are surely out deep. There is some fish inside but it sure seems that the main biomass is out in the 190-220 fow range.

May 12-13 2023 Rod Boss fishing report

The season is starting out good for salmon fishing. There is lots of fish out there. However the fish are scattered from depths of water from 50-220 fow. The salmon are being caught mainly in the top 50 fow with some coming down deep toward the bottom in the deeper depths.

The rods that were working the best were 5 and 7 colors. 100, 140 and 200 coppers. Free sliders on the downriggers have also been productive.

A few meat and fly bites here and there but for the most part it has been a spoon bite. Good spoons have been Mongolian beef, wonder bread moonshine, orange chilly Willy.

Hope this helps. Feel free to stop by slip E-1 and have a conversations about fishing

Black Pearl Report 5/14/23

2023 has started with excellent salmon fishing out of Holland.  Fish are very scattered with fish being caught from 40ft to 240ft.  Fortunately, the ones you contact seem pretty willing to bite.  We fished 120-205ft landing 9 of our 18 bites.  Spoons in Stingray and magnum sizes took the majority of our fish.  5-7 colors of Blood Run Leadcore and 150-250 coppers took fish.  Blood Run wire divers back 170-190 on highs and 100 on lows took bigger fish with Spin Doctors and flys or Big Weenie Meat rigs.  Traxstech riggers took a few rips with mag spoons.  Happy Mother's Day!
